Canning Conveyor supply new upgrade for CEMEX Angerstein Wharf
Canning Conveyor has recently been involved in an upgrade of the ship unloading system at Angerstein Wharf.
Angerstein Wharf is a marine aggregates facility situated on the south bank of the Thames close to the Millennium Dome in Greenwich. Owned and operated by CEMEX UK, leading building materials supplier, the site was redeveloped as part of their current national investment programme.
Canning designed and manufactured a new tripper conveyor unit which has been supplied to replace an old unit. The new unit is of heavy duty construction and includes open mesh galvanized walkways on both sides with an access platform around the discharge, and is accessible via a ladder from one side of the tripper run. New galvanized mesh skirt guards were also supplied and fitted to the tail end loading area of the tripper conveyor.
Canning also updated two conveyor drives by supplying a 315kW and an 185kW motor respectively and also supplied new pullies and shafts, complete with new bearings. The drive drums were lagged with 15mm Remagrip CK-X ceramic lagging.
Drip trays on the ship to shore conveyor were also replaced and a new 1200mm wide 'Rowecon' belt weigher was fitted close to the winch unit at the tail end of this conveyor, with the readout being positioned in the local control cabin situated on the pontoon in the River Thames.
Canning also fully lined an existing hopper with 50mm thick TDI 85 shore polyurethane liners on the impact section of the hopper, with 25mm thick liners to the remainder. All the liners were vulcanized onto preformed mild steel plates bolted into position in the existing hopper.
Within the contract Canning also supplied all electrical wiring and equipment; including an inverter control for the 315 kW drive unit and a soft start for the 185kW unit.
To complete the project Canning removed all old conveyor belt, and supplied and fitted 368 metres of new 1200mm wide 'Cannoflex' EP 1250/5 ply belting with 6mm + 2mm rubber covers including site vulcanized joints.
