Hanson Aggregates upgrade field conveyor with new SuperDrive
After a successful demonstration of the new SuperDrive™ system, Hanson Aggregates have now installed a unit at their Needingworth Quarry in Cambridgeshire.
The project consisted of the removal of an existing double drum drive with conventional motors and gearbox drive and then upgrading the Needingworth field conveyor extension by retrofitting the new SuperDrive™ system.
The new retrofit comprises of two 55kw, 630Ø x 1150 face SuperDrive™s each operating at 2.5m/s; both are ceramic lagged with internal backstops and run on synthetic oil, and are covered with the Canning 3 years parts and labour warranty.
The new units will be suitable for a 1000 metres long conveyor with a handling capacity of 700 tph, and offer exceptional power savings on the conventional conveyor drives that they have replaced.
Power savings are calculated at 26,276 kW hours /year, for each drive based on a one shift/day which will mean savings of £1839/year per drive @ £0.071 kW/hour.
As part of the extension work, Canning have also supplied (315) complete sections of their new field conveyor intermediate bays to suit 1000mm wide belt. Each bay comprises of two lengths of 2.6 metre long stringers with polymer saddles, 3 roll heavy duty polymer suspended sets with galvanised steel handles, bolted design support leg and heavy duty polymer parallel roller. Additionally, 775metres of curved corrugated green plastisol covered belt covers were also installed.
Alex Smiles, Quarry Manager commented "we are very pleased with the SuperDrive™ system to date. It is consistently carrying 700t per hour and has had to start fully loaded following power cuts etc. without any difficulty.We have used polymer rollers for some time now and are convinced of their advantage over steel."
