New Barford Construction Product developed with Canning help
Canning Conveyor has recently been involved in the development of a new and unique construction product.
The BIG-JAW 55 is manufactured by Barford Construction Ltd of Grantham who are a division of Wordsworth Holdings plc.
Barford believes in a programme of continual development and product innovation and is recognised for pioneering new ideas and standards within the industry. This recent development will deliver a new machine aimed at applications within the recycling market; in particular the BIG-JAW 55 is intended for use on "brown field" sites where the cost of removing waste material/rubble is prohibitive.
This new machine will enable this material to be processed into a saleable commodity.
The crusher employs an eleven segment rotor which is powered by a large Poclain hydraulic motor.
Rotating at 26 rpm at full engine speed, the rotor reacts against an anvil plate which is hydraulically adjustable to give a 14 - 200mm gap size.
Both the rotor and anvil plate are made from manganese steel castings to give a tough yet hard wearing surface. The crusher is unique in its configuration in that it offers high maneuverability; having a hydrostatic drive system, it has the ability to be choke fed, which allows it to be loaded with 2-3 tonnes of rubble, driven to where it is required and the material processed.
The unit is powered by an Iveco 94 kW engine which drives a variable displacement hydrostatic pump located in a ‘standard’ rear end of a Barford 10 tonne site dumper. The BIG-JAW 55 standard machine incorporates a simple discharge chute which clears the front of the machine.
An optional extra of a feed conveyor is also available which has been supplied by Canning Conveyor. The optional conveyor is of a pressed steel frame design and is pinned into the front chassis of the crusher at the rear end and suspended from an adjustable link to give 0-20° of elevation.
For the prototype Canning supplied a conveyor 2.86 metres long x 600mm wide, fitted with chevron belt, full length deck plates and 1 metre long skirts. The conveyor is powered by a Danfoss motor complete with a valve allowing directional and flow control.
This optional feed conveyor has been a successful collaboration between the two companies’s.
Alan Dennis, Head Engineer of Barford Construction, commented, "Canning Conveyor provided a perfect solution to a new and exciting addition to the Barford range of construction equipment, which has been developed to address the prohibitive cost of removing material into landfill, and instead provide the operators with a saleable commodity."
